The repository outlives the chat
Long AI-assisted engineering tasks can span sessions, tools and people. The durable state of the work should not disappear when one conversation ends.

AI coding tools are good at doing work. The harder problem is keeping long-running work coherent across resets, hand-offs, review and independent verification. Repository-as-State explores a simple idea: the repository should hold the durable state of the engineering process, not the chat window.
The problem
Long software tasks naturally cross context windows, model resets, different tools and independent reviews. If goals, decisions, evidence and completion state live mainly in chat, every interruption creates a recovery problem.
Repository-as-State asks what changes when the engineering state becomes durable, explicit and reviewable by default.
What the research is exploring
Long AI-assisted engineering tasks can span sessions, tools and people. The durable state of the work should not disappear when one conversation ends.
A reviewer should be able to see what changed, what was validated and what remains unresolved from the repository itself rather than relying on a model's memory of the conversation.
A new agent or engineer should be able to recover the intent and continue from an explicit state instead of reconstructing the project from a long transcript.
Tests, artefacts, diffs and explicit acceptance evidence are more useful than a confident summary saying the work is complete.
Why it matters
The interesting part is not making an agent type faster. It is making complex AI-assisted work easier to resume, verify, challenge and hand over without losing the reason behind the code.
This public page describes the principle and the engineering problem. The detailed operating pattern is still active KynticAI Labs research rather than a published recipe or a KynticAI commercial product.
The public GitHub repository contains the published Repository-as-State paper and is intentionally separate from the private implementation work.
