Doing nothing is still a business decision
Business software loves recommending things. Do this. Contact that customer. Move this money. Change that process. The part that is usually missing is the simplest question of all. What happens if we do nothing?
Action has a cost
Every action uses something. Money, time, people, capacity, attention or goodwill. Sometimes doing nothing really is the better choice.
That means a useful recommendation cannot just say an action looks promising. It needs to help the business understand whether acting is better than leaving the situation alone.
The highest percentage can still be the wrong choice
Imagine one action is very likely to work but creates little value and costs nearly as much as it saves. Another is less certain but could create a much bigger result for far less cost.
Choosing the first one just because the percentage looks safer is not intelligence. Probability tells you how likely something is. Value and risk tell you whether it is worth doing.
Keep the trade offs visible
I do not want a business decision hidden inside one magic score. Leaders should be able to see the likely benefit, cost, downside, delay and practical limits around a choice.
Good software should make a difficult decision easier to understand, not make the decision disappear behind a number.
Sometimes the right action is to act. Sometimes it is to wait. The important thing is knowing the difference before the business spends money finding out.
